Versus Fall 2012 was a concise collection designed by Christopher Kane that centered around a tie-dye fabric, some criss-cross lacing and a pattern that looked equal parts floral and geometric. Unfortunately, it would seem that Kane exhausted himself with his own collection in London last week and left little energy for Versus. The colors were atrocious- the show opened with a deep burgundy head to toe in all sorts of fabrications including leather and fur, but the hue was too brown and too purple to be attractive or even workable on most complexions.
Then the two earlier referenced patterns were worked in 4 color groups- petrol blue, pink, yellow, and dusty turquoise. Trousers ranged from skin-tight laced up leather to slouchy yellow tie-dye print, there were some cropped jackets and mini dresses, but not much interesting in the way or shape or silhouette. Kane threw in a couple sort of “street” or punk or grungy elements but overall the show lacked character and backbone. -RS (Images via Vogue.com)
Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2012- For this season’s offering, designer Massimiliano Giornetti focused on military-inspired outerwear, and floaty gossamer dresses with delicate gold embellishment. In other words- Russia. The belted coats and jackets, some with leather lapels, that opened the show, were shown in black and color somewhere between greige and taupe. Paired with pencil skirts or trousers (not too skinny!) tucked into boots, they looked smart and strong.
The latter half of the show moved into soft, romantic dresses that referenced traditional Russian costume. Some in black and gold, a few in plum and gold, a wonderful crimson color, and a few multicolor paisleys comprised the bulk of the lot. Many had delicate lacing criss-crossing the neckline while others slipped off the shoulder. All fell to below the knee and were paired with a nice contrasting, masculine leather military bag. I can so easily see these looks on the latest crop of starlets that abound- stylists take note! -RS (Images via Vogue.com)

Mary Kantrantzou fall 2012 was once again a showing of beautifully constructed clothes sculpted out of gorgeous prints. This year she focused on abstract prints in bright pink, yellow, green, and blue and silhouettes that were a bit fuller and looser than her usual cuts.
